Recommendations for Online Teaching

So you can work from wherever you are at in the world.



I'm an online teacher and I love it! It's a great way to interact with others and to not feel as lonely during isolation. Work also continues during the corona virus pandemic, as almost everyone is online.
If you are interested in becoming an online teacher as well, here are some awesome platforms that you may want to consider. All of the platforms I am listing have been recommended to me by others.

Platforms for those with a bachelor's degree and some ESL teaching experience:


    • Palfish- Teach English to children in China online. You must have a teacher's certificate OR a TEFL certificate to apply, pay is $16-22/hr
    • QKids- Teach English online to kids in China, must be enrolled in college or have completed a bachelor's degree, $16-20/hr
    • DadaABC- Teach English online to children ages 4-16, you must have a bachelor's degree plus a teacher's certificate (or TEFL certificate if you don't have a teacher's certificate) $15-25/hr
    • English First- Chose between teaching English to adults or children, bachelor's degree and TEFL certificate required, opportunities to teach languages other than English as well $11-14/hr
    • GoGoKid- Teach English online to kids in China, bachelor's degree required, $14-25/hr
    • VIPkid- Teach English online to kids in China, you must have a bachelor's degree and some teaching experience, $14-18/hr
    • ALO7- Teach English online to kids in China ages 4-15, lessons provided, must have a bachelor's degree and TEFL certificate to apply, $17-22/hr
    • iTutor- Teach English online, bachelor's degree and full time teaching certificate required to teach, $8-20/hr
    • Say ABC- Bachelor's degree and teaching certificate/TEFL certificate required, $13-19/hr
    • iTutorgroup- Bachelor's degree and TEFL certificate are required, competitive pay

Platforms that don't require teaching experience:

  • ·  QKids- must be enrolled in college or have completed a bachelor's degree, $16-20/hr
    ·  Cambly- Teach people all over the world, no experience is necessary, get paid weekly via Paypal $10/hr
    ·  51talk- Teach online to kids in China and the Philippines
    ·  iTalki- Chose between being a professional teacher and a tutor, depending on your qualifications, create your own lesson plans, pay varies
    ·  Blabu- teach English online to people in the Czech Republic, $10/hr

Keep in mind that for these positions, you must be a native English speaker, and certain jobs also prefer accents from specific countries. I am from the USA so all of the jobs above are good for people from the USA. 

Also, for most of these jobs there are specific technology requirements you will need to look into. For most of them it is just to have a fast WiFi connection, a camera on your computer, and a headset. 

It is also important for online teaching to create a space in your home where you can put up some decorations on the wall behind your computer to make it look and feel more like a classroom for the students you are teaching.

Most of these jobs have an application process, so you should apply to them now to be able to get started teaching as soon as possible.

 Finding work during the Coronavirus pandemic can be stressful. Teaching online can help to ease your financial worries as you are still able to work from home and have an income during this challenging time. I think that you will come to find, as I do, that it is also a very rewarding job to teach online.
